My Brickell Summer Skincare Routine
Heat, humidity and regular swimming are the main reasons I adjust my skincare routine during summer.

Summer skincare can be more complicated than it first appears.
Hot weather often makes my face feel oilier, but sunshine, swimming pools, air conditioning and more frequent showers can also leave my skin feeling dry and uncomfortable.
This is particularly relevant for me this year because I will soon be travelling to France for a month. Temperatures can approach 40°C, I will spend much more time outside, and I expect to be in the swimming pool almost every day.
I therefore want a routine that keeps my skin clean, refreshed and moisturised without feeling too heavy in the heat.
This is the Brickell summer skincare routine I will be taking with me.
How Summer Affects Your Skin
Summer skin has to deal with several things at once. It can become shiny and congested in some areas while still feeling dry in others.
Heat and Humidity
When the temperature rises, we naturally perspire more.
Sweat can mix with oil, sunscreen and dirt on the surface of the skin, leaving the face feeling sticky and potentially contributing to blocked pores.
This can be more noticeable in humid or coastal areas because perspiration may remain on the skin for longer instead of evaporating quickly.
My forehead and nose are usually the first areas to become shiny. However, washing the face too often can leave the skin feeling tight and uncomfortable.
The aim is to remove excess oil and perspiration without stripping away all the skin’s natural moisture.
Sunshine and Pool Water
Sun exposure can contribute to premature skin ageing, including uneven pigmentation, fine lines and changes in skin texture.
This is why SPF remains an important part of my routine, even when I am not spending the entire day beside the pool.
Swimming can create a different problem. Moving regularly between chlorinated water, sunshine and showers can leave the skin feeling dry and looking slightly dull.
I notice this particularly on my arms, shoulders and legs after several consecutive days in the pool.
Air Conditioning and Extra Showers
Air conditioning is welcome when the temperature reaches 40°C, but spending long periods in cooled indoor air can leave my skin feeling less comfortable.
I also shower more frequently during hot weather, especially after swimming.
Combined with pool water and sunshine, this can gradually leave the skin feeling dry, even when the weather outside is hot and humid.
My summer approach is therefore simple: cleanse properly, use lightweight moisture and take sun protection seriously.
My Morning Brickell Summer Skincare Routine
My morning routine has five main steps, but it only takes a few minutes. Each product has a clear purpose, and none of them feels particularly heavy during hot weather.
Step One: Brickell Clarifying Gel Face Wash
I begin with the Brickell Clarifying Gel Face Wash.
It is a foaming cleanser designed to remove dirt, perspiration and excess oil. I use a small amount on damp skin and rinse it away with lukewarm water.
During summer, it leaves my face feeling properly clean without the excessively tight feeling I get from harsher cleansers.
I normally use it in the morning and again in the evening. After swimming, I usually rinse my face with fresh water rather than using cleanser every time.
Step Two: Brickell Balancing Facial Toner
The Balancing Facial Toner is one of the most refreshing steps in my Brickell summer skincare routine.
Next, I use the Brickell Balancing Facial Toner.
It contains cucumber, witch hazel and peppermint, and has a light, refreshing feel that suits hot weather particularly well.
I apply a small amount after cleansing, concentrating mainly on my forehead and nose, where I tend to notice more shine.
Toner is not essential for everyone, but this has become one of my favourite summer steps because it quickly leaves my skin feeling fresher.
Men with very sensitive skin may prefer to use it less frequently, as witch hazel and peppermint will not suit everybody.
Step Three: Brickell Restoring Eye Cream
The Restoring Eye Cream remains my favourite Brickell product because it absorbs quickly and never feels heavy around my eyes.
The Brickell Restoring Eye Cream remains my favourite product in the range.
It has a great texture, absorbs quickly and does not leave the eye area feeling greasy.
I gently tap a small amount below and around each eye. It does not remove every line, but it helps the area look smoother, less dry and more rested.
That is enough to keep it in my routine, particularly after late summer evenings and busy family days.
Step Four: Brickell Daily Defense Face Moisturizer with SPF 20
I then apply the Brickell Daily Defense Face Moisturizer with SPF 20.
It is lightweight, oil-free and provides useful everyday sun protection without feeling too heavy on my face.
For normal daily activities and limited time outdoors, it is a convenient moisturiser. However, I would not rely on SPF 20 alone for an entire day beside the pool.
When I expect to spend several hours outside, I apply a separate broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 50 and reapply it after swimming.
The Brickell moisturiser therefore has a clear role in my routine, but I use it realistically. It works well as an everyday moisturiser with built-in protection, rather than a replacement for a dedicated pool or beach sunscreen.
Step Five: Brickell No Shine Lip Balm
The final morning step is the Brickell No Shine Lip Balm.
It moisturises my lips without leaving a glossy finish, which is exactly what I want from a men’s lip product.
The balm also includes SPF, making it useful for everyday wear. For a full day in strong sunshine, however, I would use a lip balm with stronger sun protection.
It is small enough to keep in my pocket, so I can reapply it whenever my lips begin to feel dry.
My After-Pool Skincare Routine
I do not repeat the entire routine every time I leave the swimming pool.
Instead, I rinse my face and body with fresh water and reapply my water-resistant sunscreen before returning outside.
At the end of the day, I take a warm rather than very hot shower. I cleanse my face, apply the toner and use the Restoring Eye Cream again.
The final step is moisturising my body.
I use the Brickell Deep Moisture Body Lotion after showering to help keep my skin comfortable after swimming.
Brickell Deep Moisture Body Lotion After Showering
The Brickell Deep Moisture Body Lotion becomes particularly useful when I am swimming every day.
After showering, I gently pat my skin dry and apply the lotion over my arms, shoulders, chest and legs while the skin still feels slightly damp.
It absorbs relatively quickly and helps prevent the dry, dull appearance I sometimes notice after several days of pool water, sunshine and extra showers.
It provides enough moisture to keep my skin comfortable without feeling like a heavy winter body cream.
I apply the body lotion while my skin is still slightly damp, paying attention to areas that can become dry after pool water and extra showers.
The Brickell Products I Am Taking to France
My Brickell summer routine consists of:
Clarifying Gel Face Wash
Balancing Facial Toner
Restoring Eye Cream
Daily Defense Face Moisturizer with SPF 20
No Shine Lip Balm
Deep Moisture Body Lotion
I will also take a dedicated broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 50 for long periods outside and pool days.
Written down, this may look like quite a few products. In practice, the routine remains simple.
The face wash cleans. The toner refreshes. The eye cream looks after an area that becomes drier and more noticeable as I get older. The moisturiser provides lightweight hydration and everyday SPF. The lip balm keeps my lips comfortable, while the body lotion helps prevent dryness after swimming and showering.
Each product has a clear purpose.
Do You Need a Different Skincare Routine in Summer?
You do not necessarily need to replace every product when the temperature rises.
For most men, a few sensible adjustments will be enough.
A heavy moisturiser may feel uncomfortable, so moving to a lighter formula can help. A cleanser that removes excess oil without leaving the face tight may also be more suitable.
Sunscreen also needs to become a consistent part of the morning rather than something used only at the beach.
The routine should still reflect your skin type.
Someone with oily or combination skin may appreciate the Brickell Clarifying Gel Face Wash and Balancing Toner more than someone with very dry or reactive skin.
Men with sensitive skin may prefer to use the toner less frequently or avoid it if the peppermint or witch hazel causes irritation.
For me, this Brickell routine covers the main challenges of summer without making skincare feel like another holiday chore.
It keeps my face clean, provides lightweight moisture and looks after the areas most likely to become dry after swimming.
The Daily Defense Face Moisturizer with SPF 20 works well for normal everyday use, but I will continue using a separate water-resistant SPF 50 when spending several hours outside. That distinction is important.
My aim is not to achieve perfect skin during a month in France.
I simply want to keep it comfortable while dealing with heat, humidity, pool water, stronger sunshine, air conditioning and more frequent showers.
A good summer routine does not need to be complicated. It needs to clean the skin properly, replace lost moisture and provide sun protection that matches what you are actually doing that day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is SPF 20 enough for summer?
SPF 20 can provide useful everyday protection during limited exposure, but it would not be my only sunscreen for a day at the beach or swimming pool.
For extended outdoor activity, I prefer a broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 50.
Should I wash my face after every swim?
I rinse my face with fresh water after swimming, but I do not necessarily use face wash every time I leave the pool.
Repeated cleansing can make some skin feel dry or irritated. I save a full cleanse for my usual morning and evening routines unless my face feels particularly dirty.
Can oily skin still become dry during summer?
Yes. Your face can produce excess oil and perspiration while sunshine, pool water, air conditioning and frequent showers leave other areas feeling dry.
The answer is usually balanced cleansing and lightweight hydration rather than removing moisturiser completely.
When should I apply body lotion after swimming?
I apply it after my shower once I have rinsed away the pool water.
I gently pat my skin dry and apply the lotion while it still feels slightly damp.
Do I apply eye cream before or after moisturiser?
I apply the Brickell Restoring Eye Cream after toner and before my face moisturiser.
My sunscreen remains the final skincare layer before I go outside.
Is toner essential during summer?
No. Toner is an additional step rather than one of the absolute essentials.
I use the Brickell Balancing Facial Toner because I enjoy its refreshing feel and find it useful when my forehead and nose become oily.
A simple routine can still work well with only a cleanser, moisturiser and suitable sunscreen.
