If you've read my reviews before, you'll know I'm a bit of a Manscaped fan. The Beard Hedger Plus is my go-to beard trimmer, and the Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra is the one I reach for most when things need tidying up below the belt.
The problem? Manscaped isn't exactly cheap. Their products are generally good, but you normally have to pay a premium for them. So when I heard they were launching the Lawn Mower Go for less than $50, I was curious. A Manscaped groin trimmer for the price of a couple of coffees and a sandwich? That sounded worth investigating.
But can a trimmer this cheap actually do a decent job down there, or is it one of those products where you wish you'd spent a bit more? I decided to find out.
How I Tested It
When Manscaped got in touch to say they were sending me the Lawn Mower Go for review, I was enjoying a month in the south of France. The trimmer was being delivered to my home in the UK, so there was no chance of testing it until I got back.
That gave me an idea. Rather than keeping everything neatly trimmed as usual, I thought I'd let things grow and give the Go a proper challenge when I returned.
Now, I should probably explain that I'm not normally a fan of a hairy groin. When you're spending your summer in France and the temperature is pushing 40°C, keeping things closely groomed just feels more comfortable to me. So letting nature take its course wasn't exactly my preferred holiday routine.
I didn't go completely wild, mind you. I kept the area around my penis reasonably tidy, but I let the hair around my balls grow more than I normally would. It was a bit of a compromise, but at least it meant I'd have something substantial to test the trimmer on. The things I do for a review.
By the time I got home, I was more than ready to give the Lawn Mower Go a go. I started with the guard on its lowest setting, working around my balls and the area above my penis. I then removed the guard in a few places to see how close I could get, taking things slowly and being particularly careful around the delicate bits. No one wants an unexpected holiday souvenir from a groin trimmer.
Once I'd dealt with the longer growth, I used the Go several more times over the following days to keep everything short and tidy. That way, I could see how it handled both the initial clear-up and the sort of regular maintenance most guys would actually use it for.
So, did this little budget trimmer manage to tame the situation, or did it leave me wishing I'd reached for my Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra instead? Let's get into it.
Unboxing and First Impressions
The Go is small and simple, but I really like the rubberised feel. It’s comfortable to hold, especially when trimming delicate areas.
Manscaped products usually arrive in a stylish black box, so the Lawn Mower Go's white and grey packaging was a bit of a change. And you know what? I actually quite like it. It's simple, clean, and works well for a product at this price.
The box is smaller than the ones I'm used to from Manscaped, and inside you'll find the Lawn Mower Go, a user guide, a USB-C charging cable, an additional comb, and a lanyard. Mine is the grey/silver version, which I think looks rather smart.
The packaging makes it fairly clear that this is a budget product, but I'm absolutely fine with that. At less than $50, I'd rather Manscaped spend the money on making the trimmer work properly than on a fancy box I'm going to throw away.
The trimmer itself is small, with a very simple design. There's nothing particularly flashy about it, but I like the rubberised plastic feel when you hold it. In fact, I actually find it nicer to grip than some of Manscaped's more premium models. It feels comfortable in the hand, which is quite important when you're working around an area where you really don't want to lose control.
Swapping the combs is also very easy. Personally, I like to keep my balls as closely groomed as possible and the rest of the area tidy, so I'll probably stick with my preferred comb most of the time. Nothing too wild down there for me!
I almost forgot one useful little detail: it has an LED light. Yes, even this budget model comes with a light to help you see what you're doing. It's a small feature, but when you're trimming around the more delicate bits, a little extra visibility is always welcome.
Overall, the build quality is perfectly fine for the price. Does it feel as premium as the Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra? No, and I wouldn't expect it to. You can tell where Manscaped has kept things simple, but it doesn't feel like a toy either. For less than $50, my first impression is that they've done a pretty good job.
Of course, looking good on the bathroom shelf is one thing. The real question is how well it handles the job it was designed for.
Performance: Great for the Groin, Less Impressive on the Body
This is where things get a little more complicated.
The first time I pressed the power button, I immediately noticed that the Lawn Mower Go didn't have the same punch as Manscaped's more premium trimmers. That's not necessarily a problem, especially at this price, but it does make a difference depending on what you're trying to trim.
There's actually a little clue on the packaging. The front of the box describes it as a “Groin and Body Hair Trimmer,” but inside, the message is “Just aim for the groin.” After using it, I think that's pretty good advice. Aim for the groin.

Back to My Balls
Remember how I let things grow while I was in France? Well, when I finally got around to testing the Go, I was genuinely surprised by how hairy my balls had become. Clearly, I'd taken this review preparation rather seriously.
I started with the included comb on its lowest setting, and to my surprise, the little Go handled the job very well. It doesn't have the same power as my Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra, but for this particular job, I actually quite liked that. It felt a little more manageable around the delicate bits, and I was comfortable taking my time.
I did need to make more than one pass to get everything looking the way I wanted. But the end result was really good: a very close trim, with almost no visible hair. Back to myself again!
I then used it around the base of my penis and the surrounding groin area, keeping everything short and tidy. No complaints there either. After that, I removed the comb in a few places to see how close I could get, taking extra care as I went. Again, it worked well and gave me the smooth-looking finish I was after.
I have to say, for groin trimming, the Lawn Mower Go does a genuinely good job. It's not the quickest or most powerful trimmer I've used, but I enjoyed using it. And when you're dealing with your balls, I'd rather take an extra minute than feel like I'm operating a miniature lawnmower.
Then I Tried It on My Chest…
Feeling quite pleased with myself, I decided to give the Go another challenge: my chest hair.
I have a bit of hair on my chest, and I normally like to keep it short and tidy. Nothing against the full 1970s hairy-chest look, but it's not really my thing.
This is where I started to notice the Go's limitations. It struggled more with the chest hair, and some of the hair got caught around the comb. That caused a bit of pulling and discomfort. There were no cuts or injuries, but it wasn't a particularly pleasant experience.
For me, that was enough to make the distinction clear. The Lawn Mower Go is a good little groin trimmer, but I wouldn't choose it as my main body hair trimmer. If you want something to tackle your chest, stomach, or larger areas regularly, I'd look at a more powerful model instead.

The rubberised finish gives the Go a comfortable grip, and the included lanyard is a useful extra for travelling or storage.
Three Days Later: The Maintenance Test
Three days after the first trim, I used the Go again to see how it handled regular maintenance. This time, there was obviously much less hair to deal with, and it did a great job.
It was easy to keep everything at the length I wanted, and the finish was very close and tidy. This is probably where the Go makes the most sense: a quick bit of maintenance rather than letting things turn into a full gardening project.
My balls are happy, I'm happy, and my wife is happy too. What more can you ask from a trimmer costing less than $50?
So far, my conclusion is pretty straightforward: if you're buying the Lawn Mower Go specifically for your groin, there's a lot to like. If you're expecting it to replace a more powerful, all-over body trimmer, you might be disappointed.
Final Thoughts: A Little Trimmer That Knows Its Job
I've tried quite a few affordable balls and body hair trimmers over the years. Some have surprised me, while others have been a complete disappointment. The Manscaped Lawn Mower Go is one of the more interesting ones, mainly because it does a good job where it matters most—but you need to know what you're buying it for.
First of all, I really like the size. It's small enough to throw into your wash bag without taking up much room, which makes it handy for a weekend away, a holiday, or even a trip to the gym. It's also discreet and not particularly loud, so you don't feel like you're starting up a power tool every time you want to tidy things up.
For the price, I'm genuinely pleased with how well it works around my balls and groin. It takes a little more time than my Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra, but the result is very close, smooth-looking, and tidy. For regular maintenance, it's a lovely little trimmer to use. And at less than $50, I really can't complain about the job it does down there.
But—and this is quite a big but—body hair trimming is a different story.
If you're the type of guy who likes to remove every bit of hair from his chest, stomach, legs, and everywhere else, I don't think the Go is the right tool for you. Even for someone like me, who only needs occasional chest maintenance, it didn't perform as well as I'd hoped. The pulling I experienced with the comb made it clear that this isn't the trimmer I'd choose for larger areas.
I also gave it a try on my bum. You know how it is: as we get older, hair seems to disappear from some places and turn up in others. Without the comb, the Go kind of managed the job, but that's about as much praise as I can give it. It worked, but it didn't make me want to use it there again.
So my recommendation is simple. If you want an affordable, compact trimmer specifically for your balls and groin, the Lawn Mower Go is a very good option. It comes from a brand I know well, it's easy to use, and it delivers a close, tidy result without costing a fortune.
If you need one trimmer to take care of your entire body, however, I'd give this one a miss and spend a bit more on something more powerful.
For me, the Lawn Mower Go is a great little addition to my grooming kit. It won't replace my Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra, but for keeping the family jewels tidy at home or while travelling, it has definitely earned its place.
