Revolut Is Down — And I Can’t Even Send My Kids Money for Lunch
20 October 2026 | Technology News
Revolut is experiencing a major service outage this morning, Tuesday 20 October, leaving customers unable to make card payments, transfer money or access several banking services.
And unfortunately, I discovered the problem firsthand.
This morning, I visited TK Maxx and tried to pay for a few items using my Revolut card. The transaction was declined.
I opened the Revolut app and could still see my account balance. My money was there, but I couldn't do much with it.
And that wasn't the only problem. My children are at college today, and I normally send them money through Revolut to pay for their lunch.
But this morning, I couldn't transfer anything.
So now I'm sitting here wondering whether they'll even be able to buy something to eat.
When a Banking Outage Affects Everyday Life
Like many parents, I use Revolut to transfer money to my children.
Today, I haven't been able to send them money. They also rely on Revolut to pay for things such as lunch at college, which makes this outage particularly frustrating.
We have become so accustomed to paying with our phones and banking apps that we rarely think about what happens when these services suddenly stop working.
Until a morning like this.
What Has Revolut Said About the Outage?
Revolut has acknowledged the disruption and confirmed that multiple services are affected, including card payments, transfers and ATM withdrawals.
The company says its engineering team is working to restore services and has reassured customers that their money and personal data remain safe.
According to Reuters, the disruption is linked to technical problems affecting Google Cloud services in London.
The outage has affected customers beyond the UK, with reports of problems in several European countries.
Is Revolut Working Again?
At the time of writing, Revolut's UK system status page is still reporting widespread service disruption.
If you're experiencing declined payments or problems transferring money, you can check the latest information directly on the official Revolut system status page.
In the meantime, having another bank card or some cash available is probably the most practical solution.
I've been using digital banking for years, and I appreciate how convenient it has become. But mornings like this remind me that even the most useful financial technology needs a backup plan.
I'll update this article when Revolut confirms that its services have been restored.
