Each time Edifier launches a new product, I get genuinely excited — especially when it comes to speakers. As someone who’s a big fan of great audio (and has reviewed quite a few Edifier products over the years), I always look forward to seeing how the brand evolves its sound. And this time, they’ve taken one of their most popular bookshelf models — the S880DB — and given it a full upgrade.

The new Edifier S880DB MKII comes with a completely reworked driver system. The high frequencies have been refined thanks to a 1.25-inch titanium dome tweeter, replacing the previous 1-inch version. This might sound like a small change, but in audio, these tweaks make a real difference. With a larger 25mm voice coil and neodymium magnets, the MKII promises even more detailed, accurate highs that audiophiles will appreciate.
For the mids and lows, Edifier has introduced a new 3.75-inch mid-bass driver, designed to deliver better clarity in the midrange and a deeper low-frequency response reaching down to 50Hz. That’s impressive for such a compact speaker and should result in a fuller, more balanced soundstage.

While the official press images show a design that remains true to Edifier’s elegant aesthetic, it’s the internal improvements that steal the spotlight. The MKII version is equipped with upgraded electronics, and, as expected, offers plenty of modern connectivity options including USB-C, optical, coaxial, dual RCA, and Bluetooth 5.3 with LDAC support for high-resolution wireless streaming.
That combination of form, function, and tech refinement is exactly why I continue to admire what Edifier does with its speakers — they’re beautifully made but also serious about performance.
