Horace Rich Face Moisturizer Review: Is It Better for Men Over 40?

I tested the Horace Rich Face Moisturizer for a month as my daily morning moisturiser.

I have used quite a few Horace skincare products over the years, and one thing I usually like about the brand is that the products are simple, well presented, and easy to understand. No strange routine. No overcomplicated language. Just products designed for men who want to take better care of their skin without turning the bathroom shelf into a science lab.

For the past month, I have been using the Horace Rich Face Moisturizer as my daily morning moisturiser, and I think it is one of the more interesting products in the Horace face care range.

Not because it is flashy. It is not.

But because it does something that many men, especially as we get older, start to need a bit more: proper comfort and hydration.

This is not the same type of moisturiser as the Horace Mattifying Face Moisturizer. That one feels lighter and is more suited to men with normal to oily skin. The Rich Face Moisturizer has a thicker, creamier texture. Horace describes it as a balm-cream texture, and that feels accurate to me. It is richer, more nourishing, and more comforting on the skin.

And personally, I prefer it.

Why I Started Using the Horace Rich Face Moisturizer

I am now in my 50s, and my skin does not behave exactly like it did when I was in my 20s or 30s. That is just real life.

When you are younger, a light moisturiser is often enough. Your skin usually looks fresher naturally, produces enough oil, and does not need as much help to stay comfortable during the day.

But as you get older, things change.

Skin can start to feel drier. It can look a little more tired. You may notice that a lightweight gel moisturiser feels nice when you apply it, but a few hours later your skin is asking for more. That is where a richer face moisturizer starts to make sense.

For me, the Horace Rich Face Moisturizer works because it gives my skin that extra layer of comfort without feeling heavy or greasy. I apply it every morning after cleansing, usually after using a face serum. That combination has worked very well for me.

The serum gives my skin that first hydration step, and the Rich Face Moisturizer seems to lock everything in nicely. After using it, my skin feels smoother for many hours, and it also looks healthier. Not dramatically younger. Not transformed overnight. But calmer, softer, and better cared for.

And honestly, that is what I want from a good daily moisturiser.

Texture and First Impressions

The first thing you notice with this moisturiser is the texture.

It is definitely thicker than the Horace Mattifying Face Moisturizer. If you are used to light gel-creams, this will feel more substantial. It spreads well, but you can feel that it is designed to nourish rather than simply disappear in two seconds.

I like that.

There is something reassuring about a richer cream when your skin feels a little dry or tired. It gives you the feeling that your skin is being properly looked after, especially during colder months or after shaving.

Despite the richer texture, I did not find it uncomfortable during the day. It did not leave my face looking shiny or greasy, which is important. A rich moisturizer for men can easily go wrong if it feels too heavy or sits on top of the skin.

This one feels balanced. It has that thicker, comforting feel, but it still works well as a morning moisturiser.

Horace says the product is unscented, suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, and made with 98.9% ingredients of natural origin. It is also silicone-free, paraben-free, mineral oil-free, and vegan. Those details will matter to some men, especially if they prefer a cleaner and simpler skincare routine.

For me, the most important part is still how it performs in real life. And after a month of use, I think it performs very well.

How I Use It In My Routine

I use the Horace Rich Face Moisturizer every morning.

My routine is simple:

I cleanse my face first, apply a face serum, then use the Rich Face Moisturizer on my face and neck.

I do not use it at night because I already use a night cream. That is not because the Horace moisturiser cannot be used in the evening. Horace says it can be applied morning and/or evening. It is simply because my own routine is already built around a separate night cream.

For daytime use, I find it ideal.

It gives my skin enough hydration to feel comfortable through the day, especially after applying a serum underneath. My skin feels smoother, less tight, and more settled. I also like that it does not feel like a cosmetic product trying to do too much. It is just a good, rich face moisturiser doing its job properly.

That is often what makes a skincare product easy to keep using.

Who Is This Moisturizer Best For?

I think the Horace Rich Face Moisturizer is best suited to men who feel that lighter moisturisers are no longer enough.

That may be men with dry skin, men in their 40s or 50s, or men who spend time outside and need a bit more skin comfort. It could also work well in winter, when skin tends to feel drier and more easily irritated.

If your skin often feels tight after washing your face, this is probably a good option to consider. If your skin looks a bit dull or tired, especially by the middle of the day, a richer moisturiser like this can help make your skin look more comfortable and healthier.

I also think this is a good choice for men who are starting to take skincare more seriously but do not want a complicated anti-ageing routine. You do not always need ten products. Sometimes a good cleanser, a serum, and a richer moisturiser can already make a visible difference.

Who Should Avoid It?

This is not a moisturiser I would recommend to everyone.

If you are in your 20s and have normal skin, you probably do not need something this rich. Of course, you can use it, but it may be more than your skin actually needs.

If you have oily skin, I would probably look at the Horace Mattifying Face Moisturizer instead. That one is lighter and better suited to men who want hydration without extra richness. The Rich Face Moisturizer is more about nourishment and comfort, not oil control.

This is why I like that Horace offers different moisturisers for different skin needs. The Rich Face Moisturizer is not trying to be the universal option. It has a clear purpose, and that makes it easier to recommend to the right person.

The texture is thicker and more comforting than a lightweight gel moisturiser, which is exactly why I enjoyed using it.

What I Like About It

What I like most is the comfort.

After a month of daily use, I can say that this moisturiser fits my skin very well. It gives me the thicker texture I now prefer, especially at my age, and it works nicely after a serum. My skin feels smooth for hours, and it looks a little healthier and better hydrated.

The 75ml size is also practical. It feels generous enough for daily use without being a massive tube that sits around forever.

What I Like Less

The only real point to mention is that the richer texture will not suit everyone.

If you prefer very light moisturisers that disappear instantly, this may feel too thick for you. Not heavy in a bad way, but definitely richer than a standard gel moisturiser.

I also think men with oily skin may find it unnecessary, especially in warmer weather. This is a product that makes more sense if your skin needs comfort, nourishment, and extra hydration.

Final Verdict

The Horace Rich Face Moisturizer has become a very easy product for me to recommend, especially for men over 40 or 50 who feel their skin needs a bit more care.

It is thicker than Horace’s mattifying moisturiser, and that is exactly why I like it. At this stage of life, my skin benefits from something richer. Used every morning after a face serum, it leaves my skin feeling smooth, hydrated, and comfortable for many hours.

It is not the moisturiser I would recommend to a 25-year-old with normal or oily skin. But for men with dry skin, mature skin, or skin that simply needs more comfort, it makes a lot of sense.

Simple, effective, and easy to use. That is often what good men’s skincare should be.
