I’ve spent the last three weeks using the Manscaped Lawn Mower Ultra Gen 6 on my chest, tummy, shoulders, lower back, groin, balls and bum. So when I say I’ve tested it, I mean I’ve given it a proper job to do.

At 52, I know how I like to keep my body hair. A little on my chest, kept short. Very little around the base of my penis. Smooth balls and a smooth bum. That means I need a trimmer that can handle different finishes and feel comfortable in some fairly awkward places.

I regularly test body hair trimmers for Dapper & Groomed, and the most recent one in my routine was the Lawn Mower Go, which I see mainly as a ball and groin trimmer. With the Gen 6, I wanted to see how well Manscaped’s premium model could handle the rest of my body too.

After three weeks, I’m impressed. This is the most premium body hair trimmer I’ve tried, and the foil head has been particularly useful. There is one part of the design I would like Manscaped to improve, though.

Quick Verdict
Manscaped Lawn Mower Ultra Gen 6
Best For
Men who regularly groom their chest, body and intimate areas and want to choose between neatly trimmed hair and a smooth foil-shaved finish.
The Testing
Used every two days for three weeks, always dry, on my chest, tummy, shoulders, lower back, groin, balls and bum. I deliberately left extra growth around my groin and tummy for the first session.
The Wins
The most premium body hair trimmer I've tried. Small, light and easy to grip, with a foil head that left my balls and bum beautifully smooth. No redness or itching during testing, plus straightforward USB-C charging and cleaning.
The Catch
Swapping to the foil head feels less smooth and reassuring than magnetic systems I've used. Nothing has broken during testing, but I do worry about how the attachment will hold up over time.
My Verdict
The Gen 6 earns its premium price for me. It feels excellent in the hand and handles my full grooming routine well, with the foil delivering the smooth finish I like. If you have the budget, I'd happily recommend it.

How I tested the Gen 6

Manscaped Lawn Mower Ultra Gen 6 held in one hand, showing its trimming head, controls and metal frame.

The Gen 6 feels compact and secure in my hand, which helps when grooming awkward areas.

I used the Lawn Mower Ultra Gen 6 every two days over three weeks, always on dry hair. That’s my preferred way to groom; I don’t enjoy trimming in the shower.

For the first session, I deliberately left plenty of growth around my groin and tummy. I wanted to see how it dealt with a proper amount of hair before moving into regular maintenance.

Over the following sessions, I used different combinations of the trimming head, combs and foil head depending on the area and the finish I wanted.

This review covers that first clear-up and the regular grooming afterwards. Three weeks also gives me a useful impression of everyday handling and cleaning, although the durability of the head attachment will take longer to judge.

Small, light and reassuring to hold

The first thing I liked was how the Manscaped Lawn Mower Ultra Gen 6 felt in my hand. It has a premium finish, but it still feels small and light to use. The grip is good, and I’ve found it easy to control.

That matters much more once you start moving around your body. Your chest is reasonably straightforward. Around your penis, balls or bum, a secure grip becomes a much bigger part of the experience.

I felt comfortable holding and positioning it in those areas. There’s a nice balance between the quality of the body and how manageable it feels during use.

For me, that’s a large part of what makes this feel like a premium trimmer. I appreciate it while grooming, as well as when I first pick it up.

Chest and tummy: different attachments, different finishes

I like to keep a little hair on my chest, so I used a comb there. The Gen 6 worked really well and gave me the short finish I wanted.

Having that choice is useful. Body grooming is personal, and I don’t want the same result everywhere. On my chest, I’m tidying and shortening the hair.

On my tummy, I removed the comb and used the trimming head directly. Again, it performed very well. This was also one of the areas where I had deliberately left more growth before the first session, so it had a decent amount of hair to deal with.

Being able to move between those two approaches makes it a practical tool for my routine: a comb where I want to keep some hair, and the trimming head where I want a closer result.

Shoulders and lower back: awkward areas, tidy results

My shoulders and lower back are always more difficult. Reaching them and getting the angle right takes more effort than trimming the front of my body.

I used the Gen 6 without a comb in both areas and managed to keep everything tidy. It worked well, and the manageable size and secure grip were welcome here.

You still have to deal with the awkward reach, of course. But I was happy with the result, and these are areas where I would want a full body trimmer to earn its place in my routine.

Around my penis and groin

For the area between my tummy and the base of my penis, I used the trimming head without a comb.

Closer to the base, I fitted a comb because I prefer to leave a very small amount of hair there. That let me keep the finish how I like it without removing everything.

I had no cuts, irritation or other issues in this area. The Gen 6 felt easy to handle, and moving between the comb and bare trimming head was straightforward.

This is the kind of detail I want from a grooming review. “Good for the groin” can mean several different things. In my case, it handled both closer trimming above the penis and leaving a little hair around the base.

Shaving my balls with the Gen 6 foil head

I like my balls completely smooth, so this was an important part of the test.

I used the foil head, took my time and managed to remove all the unwanted hair. I was very happy with how smooth the result felt.

For my routine, the foil is a great addition. It gives me the finish I want in an area where simply shortening the hair wouldn’t satisfy me.

But I went slowly. This is sensitive skin, and I treated it gently throughout. A good result here is about being patient as well as having a tool you feel comfortable using.

Manscaped’s own guidance makes clear that SkinSafe technology does not guarantee protection from cuts. My experience has been comfortable, and taking my time remains part of how I use it.

The foil head gave me the smooth finish I wanted on my balls and bum.

Bum, crack and the surrounding skin

Yes, I tested it here too.

I used the trimming head without a comb on my bum, then switched to the foil around the crack and the external skin around my bum hole.

The result was excellent: a very smooth bum, exactly how I like it.

This was another area where the two heads earned their place. I could trim the main area, then use the foil for the smoother finish I wanted around the more delicate parts.

As with my balls, I worked slowly and gently. Across my testing, I haven’t had redness, itching or irritation afterwards, which has made the whole experience much more pleasant.

Changing heads is my main criticism

The combs are easy to change. Swapping between the trimming head and foil head feels less smooth.

I’ve used magnetic attachment systems that make changing heads feel more effortless and reassuring. With the Manscaped mechanism, I’m a little worried that something could eventually break while I’m changing to the foil.

That is a concern about how the process feels, rather than a failure I’ve experienced during these three weeks.

The screen and light are welcome extras

I like having the display and LED light. Neither would be the main reason I bought the Gen 6, but both are welcome additions.

The screen also has a bit of personality. The balls logo made me smile, and it suits Manscaped’s approach without getting in the way of using the trimmer.

The light is useful to have when working around awkward areas. I wouldn’t call it essential, but I’m pleased it’s there.

For me, these features add to the experience. The comfortable grip and grooming results are what make me want to keep using it.

Battery, USB-C charging and cleaning

USB-C charging has been straightforward throughout my three weeks of use.

Battery life has felt solid throughout my use, and charging with USB-C has been straightforward.

Manscaped quotes up to 100 minutes of runtime. I haven’t timed a full battery run, so I can’t give you a measured figure. What I can say is that the battery and charging have caused me no issues during my regular grooming.

Cleaning has been simple too. I’ve found the whole process easy to live with, which matters when I’m reaching for it every other day.

The included storage pouch is a useful bonus for keeping the trimmer together and carrying it with me.

Is the Lawn Mower Ultra Gen 6 worth the price?

At the time of writing, the regular price is $119.99 in the US and £120 in the UK.

That is expensive for a body hair trimmer. It’s also the most premium one I have tried, and I can see why someone who grooms regularly would enjoy spending more on it.

In my case, it has handled my chest, tummy, shoulders, lower back and intimate areas well. The comb lets me retain some hair, the trimming head deals with the areas I want closer, and the foil gives me smooth balls and a smooth bum.

Those are practical reasons to appreciate it. I also like the grip, compact feel, easy charging and simple cleaning.

If you only want an occasional tidy-up around your groin, I would consider whether the simpler Lawn Mower Go covers your needs. If you want to groom several body areas and use both trimming and foil shaving, the Gen 6 makes much more sense.

My final verdict after three weeks

The Manscaped Lawn Mower Ultra Gen 6 has been excellent for my body grooming routine. I’ve used it regularly, across plenty of different areas, and I’ve been happy with both the results and how my skin has felt afterwards.

The foil head is a highlight. I want smooth balls and a smooth bum, and it has delivered exactly that. On my chest and around the base of my penis, I can keep the small amount of hair I prefer.

I would like a more reassuring system for changing heads, especially on a product this expensive. That criticism deserves to sit alongside the praise.

Even so, if you have the budget and want a premium trimmer for regular body grooming, I would happily recommend this one. It feels great to use, suits the different finishes I want and has earned its place in my routine.
