Edifier STAX Spirit S10 vs Status Audio Pro X: two premium earbuds with very different designs.

I received both the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 and the Status Audio Pro X for review purposes. This post contains affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. All opinions are my own and based on weeks of side-by-side real-world testing.

I have tested a lot of earbuds over the years, from affordable everyday pairs to more serious premium models. I have also spent a lot of time with Edifier audio gear, from speakers to earbuds and headphones, so I know what the brand can do when it gets the sound right.

But the premium earbud market has changed. High-end wireless audio is no longer just about Apple, Sony, Bose or Sennheiser. Brands like Edifier and Status Audio are now making earbuds that deserve to be taken seriously, not just as cheaper alternatives, but as proper premium options.

That is why this comparison between the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 and the Status Audio Pro X is interesting.

Both are expensive. Both are aimed at people who care about sound. And both take a very different approach to what premium earbuds should be.

One looks stronger on paper. The other surprised me more in daily use.

Open charging cases showing the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 and Status Audio Pro X earbuds.

Both earbuds feel premium, but the Status Audio Pro X have a more distinctive design.

Why This Comparison Is Interesting

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 and the Status Audio Pro X are both premium earbuds, but they approach sound and design very differently.

The Edifier are more technical. They are the kind of earbuds that look impressive when you read the specification sheet. Planar magnetic driver. LDAC. Snapdragon Audio. Hi-Res Audio. Active noise cancelling. These are not casual earbuds. They are clearly designed for people who care about sound quality and wireless audio performance.

The Status Audio Pro X feel different. They also have a strong technical side, with their triple-driver setup, but they do not rely only on specs. They feel more about the listening experience. The sound is warm, full and enjoyable. The design is more distinctive. The app is cleaner and better to use. They feel like premium earbuds that are actually built around daily use.

And that is where the Status Pro X surprised me.

Before testing both, I expected the Edifier to have a clearer advantage. I expected the planar magnetic driver to make a bigger difference. I expected the extra codec support to feel more important. I expected the STAX name to give the Edifier a more obvious premium edge.

But in real life, the Status Audio Pro X gave me the better overall experience.

How I Tested

  • Duration: Weeks of daily use with both pairs — music, calls, podcasts, and video.
  • Devices: iPhone 15 Plus and Google Pixel 9a — tested AAC and LDAC.
  • Compared: Side by side across sound quality, comfort, ANC, app experience, and daily usability.

I spent over 20 years working in sound and lighting within the entertainment industry. I know when a pair of earbuds sounds genuinely good — and when it's just marketing.

Design: Traditional vs Distinctive

Side view comparing the Status Audio Pro X and Edifier STAX Spirit S10 earbud design.

The Status Audio Pro X have a bold square shape, while the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 use a more conventional design.

The design is probably the first big difference between these two earbuds.

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 have a more traditional earbud shape. They look clean, serious and modern. They do not try to be too different, and I think many people will like that. They are the safer design choice.

The Status Audio Pro X are much more distinctive.

They have a square design, and I know this will divide people. Some will love it because it looks different from almost every other pair of earbuds. Others may find it too unusual or too visible.

Personally, I like the design of the Status Pro X. They have character. They feel more recognisable. In a market where so many earbuds look almost the same, I think Status has done something interesting.

But I also understand why some people may not like them.

And this is important for the final buying decision.

If you really do not like the square design of the Status Audio Pro X, then the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 become the obvious choice. They sound good, they feel premium, and they have a more conventional shape.

But if the design of the Status Pro X does not bother you, I think they are the stronger earbuds overall.

Comfort and Fit

Status Audio Pro X

Comfort is one of the areas where specs do not tell the full story.

You can have the best drivers, the best app and the best codec support, but if the earbuds are not comfortable, you will not use them.

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 are comfortable enough. I did not have a major issue with them. They fit well, they feel secure, and they are easy to use as daily earbuds.

But the Status Audio Pro X feel better to me over longer sessions.

They are comfortable, stable and easy to wear. I could use them for walks, music, podcasts and general everyday listening without thinking too much about them. That is always a good sign.

The square design may look unusual, but in terms of comfort, I had no real problem with it. Once they are in the ears, they work well.

So for comfort, I would give the win to the Status Audio Pro X.

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 offer a more discreet and traditional in-ear look.

Sound Quality: This Is Where Status Wins

This is the most important section of the comparison.

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 sound very good. I want to be clear about that. They are not bad earbuds at all. They are detailed, clean and refined. The sound is controlled, and the mids are especially good. Vocals sound clear, instruments are nicely separated, and the whole presentation feels polished.

But I expected more.

Maybe that is because of the STAX name. Maybe it is because of the planar magnetic driver. Maybe it is because Edifier has built such a strong reputation with audio products over the years. But I expected the S10 to give me a bigger “wow” moment.

And that did not really happen.

The planar magnetic driver is interesting, but on earbuds, I found it difficult to clearly notice and appreciate what it adds in everyday use. I am not saying there is no difference. I am saying the difference is not as obvious as some people may expect.

The Status Audio Pro X sound nicer to my ears.

They are richer. Warmer. Fuller. More enjoyable.

Music has more body. The sound feels more satisfying. It is not just about detail. It is about how the music feels when you listen for longer than a few minutes.

The Status Pro X have the kind of sound that makes you want to keep listening. That matters to me more than having the most impressive specification sheet.

The Edifier sound refined.

The Status sound enjoyable.

And if I had to choose one sound signature, I would choose the Status Audio Pro X.

Bass and Warmth

Neither of these earbuds is a silly bass-heavy product. They are both more serious than that.

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 have good bass, but it is quite controlled. Some people will like that. It keeps the sound clean and mature. But if you like a richer, fuller presentation, they may feel a little restrained.

The Status Audio Pro X have more warmth and body.

The bass feels more satisfying. Not overdone, not messy, but fuller. It gives music a more enjoyable weight, especially for everyday listening.

This is one of the reasons I prefer the Status.

They do not just sound accurate. They sound good in a way that makes sense when you are walking, working, relaxing or listening to music for pleasure.

For bass control, the Edifier are very good.

For bass enjoyment and overall warmth, the Status Audio Pro X win.

Detail and Clarity

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 are strong for detail and clarity.

If you listen to vocals, acoustic tracks, podcasts or music where separation matters, they perform very well. The mids are clean, and the overall sound has a good level of precision.

The Status Audio Pro X are also detailed, but they present detail in a warmer and more relaxed way. They do not feel as clinical. They feel more musical.

This is where personal preference matters.

Some people want maximum clarity and control.

Others want detail, but with warmth and emotion.

I sit more in the second group. I want earbuds to sound clear, but I also want them to make music feel enjoyable. The Status Pro X do that better for me.

ANC and Transparency Mode

This is one area where I would give the advantage to the Edifier STAX Spirit S10.

The ANC is very good. It feels strong, effective and more premium. If noise cancelling is one of your main priorities, the Edifier are probably the safer choice.

The Status Audio Pro X also have good ANC, and for normal daily use I think most people will be happy with them. They reduce background noise well and make them useful for travel, walking, working or blocking out general noise.

But if I compare both directly, the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 feel stronger for ANC.

So if your priority is noise cancelling first, sound enjoyment second, the Edifier may be the better choice.

But if your priority is sound quality and everyday use, I would still choose the Status.

App Experience: Status Is Much Better

This is another important difference.

The Status Audio app is much better than the Edifier app.

It looks cleaner. It feels more modern. It is easier to use. The whole user interface feels more polished and more premium.

The Edifier app works, but it feels behind in terms of design and user experience. For a product like the STAX Spirit S10, I expected a better app. At this price level, the app is part of the product. It should feel as premium as the earbuds.

This is where Status Audio has done a better job.

And for me, this matters.

I do not want to fight with an app. I do not want something that feels dated. I want the app to make the product better, not remind me that software design was not the priority.

The Status app feels like it belongs with premium earbuds.

The Edifier app feels like it needs an update.

iPhone vs Android

This is where the choice becomes more specific.

If you use an iPhone, I would choose the Status Audio Pro X without hesitation, especially if you do not want AirPods.

The reason is simple. iPhones do not support LDAC or Snapdragon Audio. So some of the biggest technical advantages of the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 are less relevant on iPhone.

Yes, the Edifier still sound good on iPhone. But you are not really getting the full benefit of what they can do.

The Status Audio Pro X, on the other hand, sound excellent on iPhone. They feel like a better match for Apple users who want something different from AirPods but still want premium sound, comfort and a good app experience.

On Android, it becomes more complicated.

If your Android phone supports Snapdragon Audio, then the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 make more sense. This is where their codec support becomes a real advantage. If you have the right phone and care about getting the most from wireless audio, the Edifier are a very logical choice.

But even on Android, I would not automatically choose the Edifier.

On my secondary phone, the Pixel 9a, I still found the Status Audio Pro X richer and nicer to listen to. The Edifier may have the more impressive codec story, but in real life, the Status still sounded more enjoyable to me.

So my recommendation is:

If you use an iPhone, get the Status Audio Pro X.

If you use Android with Snapdragon Audio support and care about codecs, consider the Edifier STAX Spirit S10.

If you use Android but simply want the best overall sound to your ears, I would still try the Status Audio Pro X first.

Planar Magnetic Driver: Is It a Big Difference?

This was one of the things I was most curious about with the Edifier STAX Spirit S10.

Planar magnetic drivers are usually associated with a more refined, detailed and controlled sound. In theory, this should give the Edifier a serious advantage.

And yes, the S10 do sound refined.

But I did not find the planar magnetic driver to be a complete game-changer on earbuds.

Maybe on full-size headphones, the difference is easier to appreciate. With earbuds, in normal everyday use, I found it more subtle.

That is not a criticism of the technology itself. It is more about expectation.

When a product uses terms like planar magnetic, STAX, Hi-Res Audio and Snapdragon Audio, you expect a very clear step up. With the S10, I heard a very good pair of earbuds, but not a product that completely changed my view of premium wireless sound.

The Status Audio Pro X do not need the same technical story to impress me.

They simply sound better to my ears.

And that is what matters most.

Battery Life

Battery life is good on both pairs.

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 gave me no real battery anxiety during testing. For normal daily use, they are absolutely fine.

The Status Audio Pro X are also good, although not necessarily class-leading. With ANC on, they are strong enough for everyday listening, walks, work sessions and general use.

I would not choose between these two based mainly on battery life.

Both are good enough.

The bigger questions are sound, app, comfort, design and phone compatibility.

The Status Audio Pro X stood out for their richer sound and stronger everyday experience.

Which Pair Feels More Premium?

This is an interesting question because they feel premium in different ways.

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 feel premium because of their technology. The planar magnetic driver, codec support and ANC all give them a serious audio identity.

The Status Audio Pro X feel premium because of the full experience. The design is more distinctive, the app is better, and the sound is richer and more enjoyable.

For me, the Status feel more polished as a complete product.

The Edifier may look better on paper.

The Status feel better in daily use.

That is the difference.

Final Verdict

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 should have been the easy winner on paper.

They have the planar magnetic driver, Hi-Res Audio support, LDAC, Snapdragon Audio, strong ANC and the technical story that usually makes a premium earbud feel special.

But after testing both, I prefer the Status Audio Pro X.

The sound is richer. The app is better. The overall experience feels more enjoyable. And in daily use, that matters more to me than a spec sheet.

The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 are still very good earbuds. I would recommend them to Android users with Snapdragon Audio compatible phones, people who want stronger ANC, and anyone who prefers a more traditional design.

But the Status Audio Pro X are the earbuds I would choose.

They are not perfect. The square design will put some people off. But if you like the design, or at least do not mind it, I think they are the better premium earbuds overall.

For iPhone users, the choice is even easier.

If you do not want AirPods, get the Status Audio Pro X.

Why You Can Trust This Comparison

I spent over 20 years working in sound and lighting within the entertainment industry. I've been reviewing headphones, earbuds, and audio gear for over 13 years on Dapper & Groomed. I don't compare products from spec sheets — I use them side by side for weeks and see which one I actually reach for.

Both the Edifier STAX Spirit S10 and the Status Audio Pro X were tested extensively on iPhone and Android, with music, calls, and daily use. Some products were sent for review, but no brand had input on this article or saw it before publication.

FAQ

  • To my ears, the Status Audio Pro X sound better. They're richer, warmer, and more enjoyable for everyday listening. The Edifier are more detailed and refined, but the Status have a fuller, more satisfying sound that makes music feel more engaging.

  • The Edifier STAX Spirit S10 have stronger ANC. If noise cancelling is your top priority, the Edifier are the better choice. The Status ANC is still good and perfectly fine for daily use, but the Edifier have the edge here.

  • It's interesting, but in everyday use on earbuds, the difference is subtle. You hear it in the detail and control, but it didn't give me the "wow" moment I expected. Don't buy the Edifier just for the planar magnetic driver — buy them if you want strong ANC, a traditional design, and Snapdragon Audio support on a compatible Android phone.

  • Status Audio, by a clear margin. Their app is cleaner, more modern, and easier to use. The Edifier app works but feels dated in comparison. At this price point, the app is part of the product — and Status gets this right.
