Recently, I reviewed the new Edifier ES20 and ES60 speakers, and today it’s time for the big one—welcome to my Edifier ES300 review. This model sits in another league when it comes to price and specs, but it still manages to keep the elegant design cues I loved on the ES60. It’s also much heavier and a bit less portable, so the big question is: is the Edifier ES300 the portable speaker you should buy in 2025?
Packaging & What’s in the Box
The box of the Edifier ES300 is definitely bigger and heavier than the one that came with the ES60, which already tells you this is a more serious speaker. As always, the branding is spot on—Edifier really knows how to design a box that feels premium. Inside, everything is packed neatly and securely.
Here’s what you get in the box:
The Edifier ES300 speaker
A power cable
A USB-A to USB-A cable
Aux cable
User leaflets, including a handy quick start guide (the connection leaflet is especially useful for Apple AirPlay setup—more on that later)
Overall, it’s a smooth unboxing experience with everything you need to get started right away.
Design & Build Quality
The model I’m testing is in the Ivory colour, and let me tell you—it absolutely screams luxury. The design is fantastic, with a retro vibe that reminds me of a classic guitar amp, yet it still feels very modern and refined.
The build quality is rock solid. There isn’t a single part where you’d think, “this could be better.” Everything is smooth, the corners blend seamlessly, and the faux leather finish is surprisingly impressive. The speaker grille looks fantastic and adds to the premium feel.
On the top, you’ll find what I’d call the “control centre.” Here you get:
Power on/off (with source selection: Bluetooth, AirPlay, AUX, etc.)
Play/pause and next/previous track buttons
Battery level indicator
A clever touch control for both volume and lights—just rotate your finger clockwise or counterclockwise in a circle. It’s simple, neat, and works flawlessly.
At the bottom, you’ll notice the integrated lights, which can be customised via Edifier’s new Edifier Home app. I own a Philips TV with Ambilight, and honestly, I love this feature—the ES300 adds that same ambient glow to your room.
Overall, the design and build quality are outstanding. Edifier has really nailed the balance between retro charm and modern luxury here. The Edifier ES300 design makes it one of the most stylish Bluetooth speakers you can buy in 2025.
Features & Specs
The Edifier ES300 is packed with features that put it in a different league compared to smaller models like the ES60. While it’s technically portable, it’s on the heavier side, so it’s more of a “move it around the house or garden” kind of speaker rather than one you’d throw in a backpack. Still, what you get in return is serious power and flexibility.
Here are the key specs:
Battery life: Up to 12 hours of playtime
Output power: 60W (RMS) total, delivering big, room-filling sound
Drivers: Dual 1.25" silk dome tweeters with neodymium magnets + 4" long-throw mid-bass driver
Audio tech: Full digital signal processing, two-way active crossover, and DRC (Dynamic Range Control)
Certifications: Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified
Connectivity: Apple AirPlay 2 (via 2.4GHz & 5GHz Wi-Fi), Bluetooth 5.4, USB, and AUX inputs
Codecs: Supports SBC, LDAC, and ALAC (AirPlay mode only)
A quick note on Hi-Res support:
Hi-Res Audio / Hi-Res Audio Wireless only work if your music streaming service supports it.
Hi-Res Audio Wireless (LDAC) works with Android devices, not with Apple.
For Apple users, you get AirPlay 2, which is great once it’s set up—but honestly, it can be a pain to configure. That’s not on Edifier, though; that’s on Apple. It’s a shame Apple still hasn’t joined the LDAC/Hi-Res Audio Wireless group… but that’s Apple for you.
On paper, these specs are very impressive for a portable speaker in this category—and they’re a big part of what makes the ES300 stand out.
My Experience with the Edifier ES300
I already own the Edifier D32, which is quite similar in terms of specs and sound quality. That said, design-wise I think the ES300 is even nicer—even though I still love the D32.
When it comes to sound quality, the Edifier ES300 delivers exactly what I expected: powerful, warm, and balanced. The bass is strong, and the speaker easily fills a room. If you push the volume all the way to the maximum, you might notice a little distortion, but honestly, it’s so powerful that you don’t need to crank it up that high. Like most Edifier products, it has that signature warm sound, which makes listening to music on it a real pleasure.
Using the Qobuz app over AirPlay, I was able to stream CD-quality tracks without any issues. And Spotify has finally announced they’re joining the Hi-Res revolution (kind of), which means soon in the UK we’ll get improved audio quality without a price increase. That’s rare for Spotify, considering every time they add features like audiobooks or podcasts, the price usually goes up. Personally, I wish we had a “music only” plan—I don’t really care about podcasts or audiobooks.
But the ES300 isn’t just great for music. Thanks to AirPlay, I linked it to my Apple TV. My Philips TV already has decent built-in sound, but I set it up so both the TV and the ES300 play at the same time. The result? Spectacular. It’s not a full home cinema system, but the sound level and depth are on another scale. Watching movies and shows on Apple TV feels like a brand-new experience.
One thing I did try (without success) was linking my D32 with the ES300. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem possible at the moment. And here’s one area where Edifier could improve: the apps. At the moment, there are three different Edifier apps, and it’s confusing to figure out which one controls which device. The ES300 uses the new Edifier Home app, which I think is the right direction. Hopefully, Edifier will consolidate everything into one app for all their speakers in the future.
Overall, my experience with the ES300 has been very positive—it’s a powerful, versatile speaker that handles both music and TV audio brilliantly.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
Powerful 60W RMS output with rich, warm sound
Premium design with retro-modern look (Ivory finish is stunning)
Hi-Res Audio & Hi-Res Audio Wireless (with Android/LDAC)
Apple AirPlay 2 support for seamless streaming
Great integration with Apple TV for movies/shows
Clever touch controls and customisable ambient lights
Solid build quality and luxury feel
Cons:
Heavier and less portable than the ES20 or ES60
AirPlay 2 setup can be frustrating (Apple issue, not Edifier)
No option to pair with older Edifier models like the D32
Edifier’s multiple apps are confusing — should be unified
conclusion
I’m a big fan of Edifier’s new ES range. I’ve already reviewed the tiny but surprisingly loud ES20 with its funky lights, and the ES60, which really impressed me with its warm sound and stylish design. Now comes the big one: the Edifier ES300.
This speaker isn’t for everyone—it’s larger, heavier, and far more powerful than the ES20 or ES60. But if you’re serious about sound, this is the one to get. For Android users with a streaming service that supports Hi-Res Audio, you’ll enjoy outstanding quality with LDAC and Hi-Res Audio Wireless. For Apple users, AirPlay 2 delivers excellent sound as well, even if it can be a pain to set up (thanks Apple). Pairing it with an Apple TV is straightforward and can take your viewing experience to another level.
So, should you buy it? If you want a big speaker with clean design and incredible sound, the Edifier ES300 is a fantastic choice. If you prefer something smaller and more portable, the ES60 is still an outstanding option.
Once again—well done, Edifier. The Edifier ES300 is available on Amazon.com (here)
