Edifier ES60 Speaker Review: The Mid-Size Marvel That Packs Serious Sound

Edifier is on a roll this year. It feels like every month they’re launching something new! A few weeks ago, I shared my thoughts on the smaller but seriously punchy Edifier ES20 read the review here.. Today, it’s time to talk about the middle child of the family: the Edifier ES60 Portable Speaker.
I’ve been testing it in the Ivory finish, and let me tell you — it’s hot. Elegant, stylish, and the kind of speaker that looks great whether it's on a shelf, on your desk or in the garden. I received the ES60 for free for review purposes, but as always, everything I share here is based on my real-world experience.
Packaging and Design: Premium Feel from the First Touch
As always with Edifier, the unboxing experience is spot on. Everything arrives neatly packed, and there’s that reassuring sense of care in the way it's presented. Inside the box, you get a clear and easy-to-follow instruction leaflet, a USB-C to USB-C charging cable, and even a lanyard, which is a nice little bonus if you’re planning to carry it around.
Now, let’s talk about the look — because the ES60 is absolutely stunning.
It instantly reminded me of the Edifier MP230 (you can check out my review here), but to be honest, this one feels even more refined. More elegant. More premium.
The faux leather finish is soft to the touch and genuinely beautiful — not plasticky or cheap like some other speakers in this range. The metal grille, complete with a clean Edifier logo, adds a sleek, structured contrast, and the buttons on top are super responsive. They click with just the right amount of feedback and feel like they belong on a much more expensive device.
All the metal detailing is done in a subtle light gold — not too shiny, just classy. It’s the kind of design choice that makes you go “wow” the first time you see it, especially in the Ivory colourway I have here.
And of course, there’s the ambient light at the base. I won’t spoil that part just yet — but let’s just say, it’s one of those details that turns a good speaker into a stylish conversation piece.
Tech & Performance: Impressive Power in a Stylish Package
The Edifier ES60 may look like a designer speaker, but under the hood it’s packing some serious tech.
Let’s get the Apple question out of the way first: it’s not AirPlay compatible, but honestly, that’s not a dealbreaker. It runs on Bluetooth 5.4, which is the latest and most stable version you can get right now. That means quick pairing, multipoint connection, and support for stereo pairing if you own two units (I only had one, so I couldn’t test that part). No issues at all with my iPhone 15 Plus — in fact, it connected in under 10 seconds on first try. Super smooth.
You can also control the speaker using the Edifier ConneX app, available on iOS and Android. It’s clean, easy to use, and allows you to switch between different EQ modes: Music, Movie, Gaming, and Outdoor. I mostly kept it on Music, but Outdoor mode really boosts the punch if you’re having a garden get-together.
Power-wise, the ES60 runs on a built-in battery offering up to 9 hours of playback, which I found pretty accurate depending on volume. Thankfully, it charges quickly via USB-C, and here’s a nice bonus — you can also connect it directly to your laptop via USB-C. When plugged into my MacBook Air M1, the audio was noticeably cleaner and sharper, supporting up to 48kHz sound quality. It’s a nice touch for anyone like me who sometimes listens to Apple Music or edits video from a laptop.
Now let’s talk sound.
This speaker outputs a solid 34W RMS, which is very impressive for its size. Inside, you’ve got dual 22mm tweeters, a powerful oval mid-bass driver with neodymium magnets, and an oval passive radiator that adds real body to the bass. The result? A warm, premium, and immersive sound that genuinely surprised me. It’s way louder than the ES20(which was already punchy), and at max volume, you can feel the speaker vibrate on the table — in a good way.
Whether I’m listening to music in the kitchen, watching a film on the sofa, or just filling the living room with some weekend vibes, this speaker delivers. And it doesn’t just sound good — it looks good doing it.
The Ambient Light: Stylish, Subtle, and So Well Done
i love the ambient light!
If you’ve read my review of the Edifier ES20, you’ll know I was already a big fan of the ambient light feature. There’s just something about it that adds personality to a speaker — and with the ES60, Edifier has taken it up a notch.
This time, the light sits at the bottom of the speaker, and the effect is honestly even better. It casts a soft, warm glow beneath the speaker that looks amazing on a shelf or table — especially in the evening. It's not flashy or distracting, just elegant and atmospheric.
You can choose from two color options and cycle through three different light effects, depending on your mood. Whether I’m listening to music while working or winding down in the evening with a glass of wine, that little glow underneath the speaker just sets the mood perfectly.
It’s one of those small features that really elevates the whole experience — and if you’re like me and you care as much about the vibe as the sound, it’s something you’ll appreciate every single day.
Everyday Use: From Desk Companion to Kitchen DJ
One of the things I love most about the Edifier ES60 is how naturally it fits into my daily life. During the day, it lives on my desk, keeping me company while I work. The sound is rich without being overpowering, and the look? Let’s just say it brings a touch of class to my workspace.
But when it’s evening time — and especially when I start cooking (which I genuinely enjoy) — I simply pick it up and take it with me to the kitchen. It’s not heavy, it doesn’t take up much space, and it turns my kitchen into a mini music lounge. I only really use it for music, not podcasts (not really my thing), and this speaker is absolutely made for that. The warmth, clarity, and depth it delivers just makes every playlist sound better.
And yes — the ES60 is definitely coming with us on our summer trip to the south of France. It’s the perfect travel speaker: portable, beautiful, powerful, and battery-powered. I can already picture it playing in the background while we enjoy a slow evening outdoors, probably with a glass of rosé in hand and the Pyrenees not too far away. That’s the vibe.
Verdict: One of Edifier’s Best-Looking Speakers Yet
I haven’t had the chance to try the Edifier ES300 yet — the big one in the family with Hi-Res Audio support — but after testing both the ES20 and now the ES60, I can honestly say I’m impressed. Really impressed.
Both speakers deliver incredible value for the price, but the ES60 is my personal favourite. It just feels more complete — from the fuller sound and stylish design to thoughtful features like the ambient light and USB-C audio support.
It hits that sweet spot between style, sound quality, and everyday practicality. The Ivory finish, faux leather wrap, and subtle light gold details make it feel far more premium than you’d expect at this price. And while it doesn’t support AirPlay, the Bluetooth 5.4, multi-device pairing, and USB-C connectivity make it extremely versatile — whether you’re on iPhone, Android, Mac, or anything else.
It’s not just a speaker that sits there. It becomes part of your day — from your desk to your kitchen to your summer holiday setup. If you're after a portable speaker that sounds just as good as it looks, the ES60 is a no-brainer.
I’ve tested a lot of Edifier products over the last year, and this might just be one of my favourites yet.
