Edifier sent me the G1000 II desktop gaming speakers for review, and I’ll start with a confession: I’m not a gamer. I love good sound, speakers, headphones, turntables… but I’m more about music and productivity than late-night online battles.
My daughter, on the other hand, is a proper gamer. So very quickly after unboxing, these Edifier G1000 II gaming speakers migrated to her PS4 and laptop. She’s been using them daily for around three weeks now, and this review is a mix of my “dad who loves audio” perspective and her “actual gamer” experience.
If you’re looking for compact RGB desktop gaming speakers for a PS4, PS5, PC or laptop, here’s how the G1000 II have performed in our house.
Design & First Impressions
The first thing that struck me with the Edifier G1000 II is how compact they are. They are:
Small
Neat
Very easy to place on either side of a monitor or a laptop
The version we have is black, and that was the right choice for a gaming setup. The combination of the dark body with the LED lighting gives them a subtle futuristic look. They don’t scream “kid’s toy”, they look like proper modern gaming speakers.
The LED ring around each driver gives them that classic RGB gaming vibe. In my daughter’s bedroom, with the lights off and her PS4 on, they look fantastic. The glow feels like a natural extension of her gaming setup – controller, console, headset, keyboard, mouse, and now speakers.
From a build-quality point of view, they feel solid for such small desktop speakers. Clean lines, tidy finish, nothing rattly or cheap. You can tell Edifier has a lot of experience designing PC speakers that actually look good on a desk.
Setup & Ease of Use
One thing I love about Edifier is that they generally keep setup simple – and the G1000 II gaming speakers are no exception.
My daughter plugged them into her PS4 and was up and running very quickly. She also tested them on her laptop and again, no drama, no complicated menus, just simple plug-and-play. For everyday use, volume and controls are straightforward enough that even a non-techy person can handle them. My daughter just turns them on, picks her game, and that’s it.
Sound Quality – Warm, Clear and Gaming-Friendly
Now, onto the most important part of any desktop gaming speaker review: the sound.
My daughter summed it up very simply:
“They sound totally fine.”
“Not the loudest, but loud enough for gaming.”
“The sound is nice and clear.”
And honestly, I agree with her. You get that classic Edifier sound signature: warm, pleasant, and easy to listen to for long sessions. These speakers are not harsh or fatiguing, which is important when you’re gaming for a couple of hours in the evening.
Volume
Are they the loudest gaming speakers I’ve ever heard? No. Do they need to be? Also no.
In a typical bedroom or home office setup, sitting close to your monitor or laptop, they are loud enough. You can comfortably hear:
Dialogue
Sound effects
Background music
without feeling like you need to max them out. If you’re expecting them to fill a big living room like a soundbar with a subwoofer, that’s not what they’re built for. But as compact PC gaming speakers, they do the job very nicely.
Three EQ Modes: Gaming, Music & Movie
The Edifier G1000 II come with three EQ modes:
Gaming Mode
Music Mode
Movie Mode
In real-life use, this is how they’ve worked for us:
My daughter leaves them on Gaming Mode when she’s playing on her PS4. This gives her a more focused, punchy sound that works well for gameplay.
When she moves to her laptop and listens to playlists or watches YouTube, she switches to Music Mode for a slightly more relaxed, warm presentation.
Movie Mode adds a bit of drama and space, which is nice for Netflix and films.
The changes aren’t insanely dramatic, but they’re definitely noticeable enough to be useful. It’s a nice touch on relatively small and affordable desktop gaming speakers.
Real-World Gaming Experience (From My Daughter)
From my daughter’s point of view, the G1000 II have become part of her daily gaming routine:
They sit neatly on each side of her screen.
The RGB lighting makes her setup feel more “complete”.
The sound is “nice and clear”, which for her is the main thing.
She hasn’t complained once about them, which is probably the best review you can get from a teenager.
Her only criticism was exactly the same as mine:
“They could be a bit louder… but I love how they look.”
Who Are the Edifier G1000 II For?
From our experience, I’d say the Edifier G1000 II desktop gaming speakers are ideal if:
You’re building a gaming setup in a bedroom or small office
You play on PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC or laptop and want better sound than built-in speakers
You like RGB gaming speakers that look the part but don’t dominate your desk
You want compact speakers with a warm, clear sound that’s easy to live with
They are probably not for you if:
You want very high volume and deep, booming bass
You’re looking for a full home cinema experience
You want huge tower speakers or a 2.1 setup with a subwoofer
These are designed to be small, stylish, and practical – and in that space, they do really well.
Final Verdict – A Great Little Gaming Upgrade for Smaller Spaces
After three weeks in our house, the Edifier G1000 II have absolutely earned their place on my daughter’s desk.
From my side, as someone who cares about audio, I appreciate the warm sound and how these little speakers improve everyday gaming and media compared to basic built-in speakers. From her side as a gamer, they look cool, they sound good, and they just work.
If you’re looking for compact RGB desktop gaming speakers that:
Don’t take much space
Look great in a gaming setup
Offer clear, warm sound with handy EQ modes
then the Edifier G1000 II are a very solid option to consider: especially for teenagers, students, or anyone building a gaming corner in a bedroom or office.
They’re not the most powerful speakers Edifier makes, but for their size, design and price point, they’re a very nice addition to any gaming setup. The Edifier G1000 II are available on Amazon (here)
