Since launching Dapper & Groomed, I have realised that the small accessories in a man’s wardrobe often matter more than we think. We talk a lot about jackets, trainers, fragrances and skincare, but socks and underwear are part of daily life. You wear them constantly, and when they are uncomfortable, too thin, too tight, or badly made, you notice it straight away.

Personally, I have always preferred a fairly simple wardrobe. I like pieces that are easy to wear, comfortable, practical and that fit naturally into everyday life. That is probably why ankle socks have become such a staple for me. I wear trainers a lot, and I have never really been a big crew socks guy. For my style and daily routine, ankle socks just work better.

This is where the Closemate ankle socks come in. They are sold in a pack of seven, which already makes them practical for everyday use, but what really impressed me was how comfortable they feel. I have been wearing the white version for about a month now, mainly for daily wear and walking Marlow, my Cocker Spaniel.

And honestly, they have become some of the most comfortable socks I own.

What are the Closemate ankle socks?

The Closemate ankle socks are trainer-style socks sold in a pack of seven. They are designed for everyday wear, walking, running, gym use and general sports activity, but I have mainly tested them in a very normal way: with trainers, during daily life, and on regular dog walks.

That is usually the best test for this type of product. Socks do not need to perform like high-end technical running gear for most men. They simply need to fit well, feel comfortable, stay in place, wash properly, and not become annoying after a few hours.

The Closemate socks do all of that very well.

The Closemate ankle socks arrive in a practical pack of seven, which makes them easy to use as everyday trainer socks.

Fit and first impressions

The first thing I noticed was the fit. These socks are true to size and feel just right on the foot. Not too tight, not too loose, and with enough stretch to feel secure without being restrictive.

That matters more than it sounds. A badly fitting sock can ruin a pair of trainers. If it slips at the heel, bunches under the foot, or feels too tight around the ankle, you spend the whole day noticing it. With the Closemate socks, I did not have that problem.

They fit neatly, they sit well inside trainers, and they feel immediately comfortable. There is nothing complicated or flashy about them, but that is part of the appeal. They are simple, clean, practical ankle socks that do exactly what I want them to do.

Comfort and cushioning

The Closemate socks are quite thick, which gives them a very comfortable feel. They are not thin fashion socks. They have proper softness and cushioning, especially for daily wear.

For me, this is one of their strongest points. I spend a lot of time at home working on the blog, but I am also out walking Marlow every day. I need socks that feel good inside trainers and remain comfortable after a few hours. These do that extremely well.

After wearing them for a full day, they still feel comfortable. No rubbing. No irritation. No feeling that I need to take them off the moment I get home.

They are soft, cushioned and easy to wear. That may sound simple, but with socks, simple is often exactly what you want.

Do they stay in place?

Yes, and this was one of the things I was pleased to see.

Some ankle socks can be comfortable at first but slowly slide down into the shoe, especially when walking. That is irritating, and once it starts happening, I tend to stop wearing them.

The Closemate socks stay in place perfectly well. I have worn them with trainers for daily wear and dog walks, and I have not had issues with them slipping at the heel or moving around under the foot.

For ankle socks, that is essential. They need to feel invisible in the best possible way. You put them on, wear your trainers, and forget about them. That is exactly the experience I have had here.

Daily wear and walking

The fit is one of the strongest points. The Closemate ankle socks feel true to size and stay comfortably in place.

I have used these socks mainly for normal daily life and walking Marlow. Nothing extreme, nothing staged for the review. Just real use.

That is where I think they make the most sense. They are comfortable enough for long days, thick enough to feel supportive, and practical enough to wear with casual trainers.

I would not describe them as luxury socks, but I would describe them as very good everyday socks. And for most men, that is probably more useful. You want something you can wear regularly, wash easily, and reach for again without thinking too much.

The fact they come in a pack of seven also makes them very practical. You are not buying one special pair. You are buying a proper weekly rotation.

Washing and durability

After a month of use, they have been easy to wash and have kept their shape and softness well.

That is important because some socks feel great when new but start to lose their shape quickly. They stretch, become rougher, or begin to feel thin after a few washes. I have not noticed that with the Closemate socks so far.

They still feel soft, they still fit well, and they have not become loose or uncomfortable.

Of course, socks need longer-term testing to judge full durability, but after a month, I am happy with how they have performed.

What I like

What I like most about the Closemate ankle socks is the comfort. They are soft, thick, cushioned and reliable. They fit properly, they stay in place, and they work well with trainers.

I also like the value of the seven-pack. It makes sense for daily wear. You can use them throughout the week without constantly thinking about laundry, and that is exactly what I want from this type of sock.

They are also easy to recommend because they do not feel like a risky purchase. They are simple, practical and genuinely comfortable.

What I don’t like

There is not much I would criticise, to be honest.

The only small negative is the limited colour choice. I have the white version, which looks clean and works well with trainers, but I would like to see more colour options. Black, grey and white are useful, but a few more subtle colours would make them even more versatile.

Also, because they are quite thick, some men may prefer something thinner for very hot summer days or for tighter-fitting shoes. Personally, I like the thickness because it makes them more comfortable, but it is worth mentioning.

Who are they best for?

The Closemate ankle socks are best for men who want comfortable everyday trainer socks without overthinking it.

They are ideal if you wear trainers often, prefer ankle socks over crew socks, and want something soft, cushioned and reliable for daily wear. They are also a good choice for walking, travel, casual gym use, and general weekend outfits.

If you like very thin socks, these may feel a little too thick. But if you prefer a more cushioned sock that feels comfortable all day, they are an excellent option.

Final verdict

After wearing the Closemate ankle socks for about a month, I can absolutely recommend them.

They fit true to size, stay in place, wash well, and remain soft and comfortable after repeated wear. They are quite thick, which I personally like, and they work perfectly as daily socks with trainers.

They may not be the most exciting accessory in your wardrobe, but that is not the point. Good socks are the ones you keep reaching for without thinking. And that is exactly what happened with these.

The Closemate ankle socks are simple, comfortable, practical and very easy to live with. For a pack of seven, they make a lot of sense. Available in the UK on Amazon.
