Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer Review: A Surprisingly Capable $20 Grooming Kit

Body hair trimmers for men are incredibly popular, and they're exactly the kind of product I enjoy testing. There are hundreds of them on Amazon, many looking suspiciously similar, and prices can range from ridiculously cheap to well over $100.

Today we're going right down to the affordable end.

The Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer costs under $20 and is designed to handle pretty much everything: beard, body hair, pubic hair, nose hair and even the occasional hair touch-up.

Basically, Kensen wants this little grooming kit to take care of almost everything from your nose to... well, considerably further south.

For under $20, that sounds rather ambitious.

I've been using the Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer for several weeks, and I've tried pretty much every attachment. So, is it another cheap Amazon trimmer that looks good in the pictures, or is it actually worth buying?

Let's find out.

How I Tested the Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer

I didn't just switch the Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer on for five minutes and call it a review. I used it for several weeks across pretty much every area it is designed for.

• Trimmed my short beard several times using the beard attachment.
• Trimmed the hair above and around my ears.
• Removed the hair from my chest, stomach and shoulders.
• Trimmed my pubic hair and groin area.
• Used it around my backside.
• Trimmed my nose hair with the dedicated attachment.
• Used it every three to four days afterwards for regular maintenance.

This gave me a good idea of how the Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer performs both on longer growth and for regular maintenance.

Packaging and First Impressions

This is where the Kensen starts to impress. You get plenty of attachments and combs for the money.

The packaging I received looks slightly different from the version currently shown on Amazon US, but the trimmer itself is the same.

And yes, the box looks cheap.

But we're talking about a grooming kit costing less than $20, so I'm not going to complain because Kensen didn't give me an Apple-style unboxing experience.

What matters is what you get inside, and this is where things become much more interesting.

There are several combs and attachments covering body hair, beard trimming, nose hair and hair cutting. Honestly, it's a very complete little kit. Unless you're trying to run your own barber shop from the bathroom, you probably won't need much else.

The trimmer itself also surprised me.

I expected lightweight, plasticky and obviously cheap. It isn't. It feels solid enough in the hand, the finish is decent, and the small digital display showing battery and power level is a nice touch at this price.

There's no carrying case, though, so my advice is simple: keep the box. Otherwise, you're going to end up with attachments scattered around your bathroom drawer, and six months later you'll have absolutely no idea what half of them are for.

Changing the attachments is easy, although I do have one small concern. They clip into place rather than using a fully magnetic system like I've seen on some Maxgroom trimmers. Everything works perfectly well now, but I'd be gentle when removing and replacing them. Whether those clips will still feel as solid after a year or two is something I'll only be able to judge with time.

Still, my first impression was better than expected. For $20, there's a surprising amount here.

How Does the Kensen 4 in 1 Perform?

Before we get into individual areas, there's one thing you need to know about the Kensen 4 in 1 (series S30).

This little thing is powerful.

You can adjust the power level, but I spent most of my testing using the lowest setting. I simply didn't feel the need for more.

Battery life has also been excellent so far. I've used it repeatedly across different parts of my body without feeling like I'm constantly looking for the USB cable.

So far, so good.

Chest and Stomach – 9/10

I normally keep my chest hair very short, but because I apparently enjoy making my life difficult for these reviews, I let it grow for a few weeks before testing the S30.

There was considerably more hair than I normally allow.

I started with the V-shaped body blade on its closest setting and went across my chest, stomach and shoulders.

The result was excellent.

It cut through the longer hair very quickly, glided nicely across the skin and left me with a very close, almost shaved-looking finish. I managed to do my entire chest and stomach surprisingly quickly.

A few days later, I used the 1mm skin-protection attachment for maintenance and again it worked very well.

For body hair on the chest and stomach, I have very little to complain about.

Score: 9/10

I let my chest hair grow more than usual for this test, and the Kensen handled it surprisingly easily.

Shoulders and Lower Back – 9/10

One of the joys of getting older is discovering that hair starts appearing in places where you really don't want it.

I'm 52, and for me that's mainly around my shoulders and lower back. Personally, I hate it. I don't find it particularly attractive, so it has to go.

The V-shaped blade made this very easy. It moved comfortably across my shoulders and removed the hair quickly without pulling.

The lower back is obviously slightly more awkward because you need to reach it, but that's more of a problem with human anatomy than with the Kensen.

Once finished, everything was clean and tidy.

Score: 9/10

Pubic Hair and Backside – 9/10

Right, we're heading south.

I used the body-hair attachment around the base of my penis and the area between my groin and stomach. Again, the S30 performed extremely well.

The power really helps here. It dealt with the hair quickly and left everything looking very clean and tidy.

I also tried it around my backside. Yes, including the more difficult areas.

It actually worked very well. I took my time, used it carefully, and managed to get a very smooth result.

It's probably not the part of the review Kensen will put on the box, but there you go. Someone has to test these things properly.

Balls – 8/10

My balls were slightly more complicated.

For this area, I used the 1mm skin-protection attachment and took things slowly. It did a perfectly respectable job and left the hair extremely short.

But if you're like me and prefer your balls almost completely smooth, the S30 doesn't quite get you there with the protective attachment fitted.

You'll get a very tidy, very short result, but not that completely smooth finish.

For guys who like a tiny amount of hair left, it's probably ideal. For completely smooth balls, there are trimmers I've used that get closer.

Still, considering the price, it performs well.

Nose Hair – 10/10

I hate visible nose hair.

I know we're all getting older, but there are some things I refuse to surrender to just yet.

Thankfully, the nose-hair attachment is excellent. The S30 has plenty of power, and within a couple of minutes everything was tidy again.

Simple, quick and effective.

Score: 10/10

The beard attachment was one of my favourites. The narrow head and adjustment wheel made it easy to get the different lengths I wanted.

Beard – 10/10

This was probably the biggest surprise.

I keep a short beard, but I don't use one length everywhere. I prefer the sides shorter, with a little more length around my cheeks and moustache.

The beard attachment is relatively narrow, which gives you plenty of control, and the adjustment wheel makes changing length extremely easy.

I managed to get exactly the shape and length I wanted without much effort at all.

As a beard trimmer, this thing is genuinely excellent.

Would it replace my favourite premium beard trimmers? Probably not. But remember: this entire kit costs less than some replacement blades.

For the money, I'm impressed.

Hair

I don't normally cut my own hair, so I'm not going to pretend I gave myself a full haircut just for the sake of the review.

I did, however, tidy the hair around the sides and above my ears.

It was neat, quick and easy.

So I can tell you it works perfectly well for little touch-ups. I can't tell you whether I'd trust myself—or the S30—to give me a complete haircut, because I didn't test that.

And frankly, my barber probably prefers it that way.

The wide body blade was excellent on my chest, stomach, shoulders and pubic hair, especially when dealing with longer growth.

Final Thoughts

For under $20, the Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer has been a very pleasant surprise.

Its strongest areas are probably beard trimming and nose-hair trimming, where it performs far better than I expected for something this inexpensive.

But it's also a genuinely capable body groomer.

It made short work of my chest, stomach, shoulders, pubic hair and backside, and the motor has plenty of power. Around the balls, things aren't quite as impressive if you're looking for a completely smooth finish, but with the 1mm protection attachment it still gives you a neat, very short result.

The Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer is also IPX7 waterproof, although personally I prefer trimming dry. I find it easier to see what I'm doing and how much hair I'm actually removing.

My only real question mark is long-term durability.

The trimmer feels surprisingly well made, but at this price I can't tell you after a few weeks how the motor, battery or attachment clips will feel after a year of regular use. I'll keep using it, and if anything changes, I'll update this review.

For now, though, it's difficult to argue with what Kensen is offering.

If you want one affordable grooming kit that can handle your beard, body, pubic hair, nose hair and the occasional hair touch-up, the Kensen 4-in-1 Trimmer gives you an awful lot for less than $20.

Is it as refined as the best premium trimmers I've tested? No.

But does it need to be?

For twenty dollars, I think Kensen has done a remarkably good job.

My verdict: one of the most complete budget grooming kits I've tested, with surprisingly few compromises for the price.
