Review: Olight Baton 4 – The Little flashlight That Changed My Evening Walks

When Olight first contacted me about trying one of their flashlights, I wasn’t sure what to say. I don’t usually review this type of product. My blog is filled with fragrances, skincare, and tech. A flashlight didn’t quite fit that world — at least, that’s what I thought.

But autumn has a way of changing routines. The sun now slips away before 5 p.m., and the countryside around Bristol turns into a blend of mist and quiet shadows. One evening, walking my Cocker Spaniel Marlow down our usual lane, I switched on the Olight Baton 4 for the first time — and everything shifted.

That small beam pierced the darkness like a thread of daylight. The hedgerows, the stone walls, the puddles on the road — all came alive again. I realised, quite suddenly, that this tiny device had earned a place in my everyday carry.

At 51, I didn’t think I’d ever get excited about a EDC flashlight. Yet here I am, writing about one.

Small, Solid, and Cleverly Designed

The Baton 4 is beautifully built — solid in the hand but light enough to forget it’s in your pocket. The anodised aluminium body feels premium, and everything about it is deliberate: the texture for grip, the smooth side switch, the pocket clip that never gets in the way.

The magnetic charging base might be my favourite feature. You just drop it onto its cradle, and it snaps in place with a satisfying click — no cables, no fiddling. The little charging case doubles as a power bank and even shows how much charge you have left. Add to that a compact, sturdy pouch, and it’s clear Olight understands how people really use their gear.

A flashlight With a Personality

What makes this flashlight truly special isn’t just its power — it’s how you can shape the light to match the moment.

There’s a Moonlight mode, so gentle it barely disturbs the night, perfect for checking on the dog or finding keys without waking the house. Then comes Turbo mode, which unleashes its full brightness — ideal when I’m crossing an open field and want the path ahead completely visible.

The Strobe mode can grab attention if you ever need it for safety, and the auto shut-off function is a thoughtful touch — a small safeguard that makes sure you never drain the battery by accident. You can easily adjust brightness levels, too, depending on whether you’re wandering through dark lanes or just looking for something in the boot of the car.

It’s this quiet versatility that makes the Olight Baton 4 stand out. It’s not just bright; it’s adaptable.

Rediscovering the Countryside After Dark

There’s something magical about the countryside at night. The stillness, the distant sounds — a fox calling somewhere ( a lot where I live), leaves rustling under Marlow’s paws. With the Baton 4, I notice the glint of raindrops on grass, the shape of old oak branches, and even the soft steam of my breath in the cold air.

Light changes everything — not just what you see, but how you see it.

Sometimes I stop halfway down the lane, switch to Moonlight mode, and let the darkness return for a few seconds. Then, with a press of the button, I bring the light back — gentle, steady, reassuring. It’s a small ritual that reminds me how even the simplest technology can bring quiet joy.

Final Thoughts

The Olight Baton 4 surprised me. It’s small, clever, and perfectly executed — a mix of strength and refinement that I honestly didn’t expect from an EDC flashlight. It’s now as much a part of my daily life as my keys or my phone. Whether it’s for walking Marlow, camping trips, or those late-night power cuts in winter, it’s become something I reach for without thinking.

And that’s the best compliment I can give: it’s not just another gadget — it’s a companion. Sometimes the smallest things illuminate our routines in the most unexpected ways. The Olight Baton 4 is available on Amazon.com (here)
